Position Summary:

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) provides direct, high-quality, and compassionate care to patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical needs. This role requires critical thinking, rapid decision-making, and excellent communication skills in a fast-paced environment. The ED RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to stabilize patients, implement treatment plans, and ensure safe, patient-centered care from triage through discharge or admission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform focused assessments and prioritize patient care based on acuity.
• Triage patients using established guidelines and ensure timely interventions.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as ordered by providers.
• Monitor, assess, and document changes in patient condition.
• Respond to emergency situations and perform life-saving measures (e.g., CPR, defibrillation, code response).
• Assist physicians and providers with procedures and examinations.
• Coordinate patient care and communicate effectively with physicians, providers, ancillary staff, and patient families.
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Provide education and discharge instructions to patients and families.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, EMTALA).
• Participate in continuing education and departmental meetings to maintain competencies and stay informed on best practices.
• Precept and mentor new staff and nursing students as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kentucky with no restrictions.
• BLS required
• ACLS, PALS, NIHSS required within 3 months
• TNCC required within 1 year

Experience:

• One (1) year of RN experience preferred; emergency nursing experience highly desirable, but not required.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong clinical judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records and standard ED equipment.
