Catholic Charities of Louisville (CCL) is the social-service arm of the Archdiocese of Louisville (ADOL). We provide help and create hope for the poor and vulnerable through a wide range of programs, assisting clients of all races, backgrounds and beliefs. Our service area includes 24 counties throughout Central Kentucky.


GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is part of the Mission team of Catholic Charities of Louisville (CCL), as well as a staff member of the Archdiocesan Hispanic Ministry Office. The Hispanic Services Coordinator assists in the pastoral ministry to Hispanic Catholics by connecting Hispanic individuals and families to social services and programming provided by CCL and other community organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  1. Participate as an active member of the Mission Team, which includes attending meetings and working collaboratively on projects that advance the mission of the agency.
  2. Within the Office of Hispanic Ministry, respond to calls and requests for assistance from parishes and/or individuals with human service needs:
    • Identify, keep current, and coordinate Spanish language resources for immigrants, including resources that are accessible to migrants without legal status in the United States, for legal issues, mental health support, domestic violence counseling, and other relevant topics.
    • Connect individuals with responsive Spanish language community resources, when such resources are available.
    • Connect individuals with Catholic Charities assistance for basic needs, such as food or rental assistance, when such resources are available.

3.      Work closely with Catholic Charities staff to create and deliver programming for parishes with Spanish-speaking immigrant communities, including outreach and support to seasonal migrants, such as:

    • Cultural orientation as to local transportation, banking, public safety, and healthcare systems, particularly as to migrants without legal status.
    • Informing guardians to the local education system and child-rearing practices.

  4.      Interface with community groups, such as the JCPS Latinx Advisory Council and Louisville Latino Educational Outreach (LLEO), to remain informed as to community resources, activities, and advocacy relevant to the Hispanic community, and to make community leaders aware of the services provided through Catholic Charities and the Office of Hispanic Ministry.

  5.      Collaborate with parishes within all the counties in the Archdiocese of Louisville to connect immigrants with external non-profits and community organizations for support, including resources that match the challenges of rural immigrants.

  6.      Explore training programs to assist pastors and pastoral leaders to better support the immigrant community.

  7.      Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Fluent Spanish; native speaker preferred.
  • Active Catholic with understanding of Catholic social teaching and knowledge of Church’s teachings on family life and immigration.
  • Conversant and comfortable interacting in both individual and group settings must be comfortable dealing with a diverse group of cultures in a way that welcomes, strengthens and empowers all participants.
  • Experience in public speaking, presentation, and meeting facilitation.
  • Bachelor’s degree with Social Work courses desirable.
  • Experience and/or training in social work or other social services is a plus.

 SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and personal transportation.
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with colleagues, parishes, clergy, and other community personnel.
  • Skilled in MS Office, including PowerPoint and Excel; Zoom and other virtual presentation platforms; and in working with databases and doing on-line research.
  • Skilled at developing relationships through one-on-one conversations and engaging leaders, including Catholic clergy and pastoral staff as well as CCL program directors. 
  • Can manage time effectively; able to run effective meetings. 
  • Self-directed, strategic, and a good planner.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must demonstrate self-confidence, initiative, flexibility, and a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
Education Requirements (All)
Bachelor’s degree with Social Work courses desirable.
