Position Summary
Under the direction of the Center Manager, the Patient Services Representative greets, instructs, directs and schedules dental and medical patients and visitors. Serves as a liaison between patient and staff. Ensures the front office runs efficiently and effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner
• Checks in patients, verifies and updates necessary information on medical or dental records for each visit. Collects co-pays and patient due balances. Submits end of day report daily
• Maintains appointment book and follows office scheduling policies
• Answers telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information to various parties
• Assists patients and office staff with billing questions
• Types correspondence, sorts mail, and dental/medical records as directed
• Assists staff to ensure records are complete and accurate
• Ensures referrals to other providers are timely and results are documented in patient’s record
• Assists uninsured patients to identify initial or continuing eligibility for Sliding Fee Discount or other health insurance programs
• Maintains records regarding our Sliding Fee Scale. Ensures policy is followed and appropriate documents are retained for compliance with this policy
• Maintains work area and lobby in neat and orderly manner
• Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as requested
• Maintains patient confidentiality
• Performs receptionist duties per above at the school as needed

• Other duties as necessary to ensure successful attainment of SCHC goals and objectives
Job Qualifications and Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Two years of work experience in a medical office setting and/or customer service
• Knowledge in MS Word, Excel, Outlook
• Knowledge in Electronic Health & Dental Records
• Knowledge of the various insurance plans in a doctor’s office. This knowledge should include understanding eligibility requirements, ability to read an Explanation of Benefits, and ability to communicate this information to all involved
• Knowledge of dental and/or medical terminology
• Knowledge in operation of a computer and other office equipment
• Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely
• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
