Job Summary/Purpose
Under the direction of the Radiologist and Radiology Manager, the Rad Tech operates radiographic equipment to produce highly diagnostic x-ray images without constant supervision. Responsible for the skilled and competent performance of radiology services ordered by a physician in accordance with established protocols set by this facility. This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties performed by this employee. The Rad Tech will also perform or prepare for a wide variety of patient radiology examinations that include general diagnostic, fluoroscopic, and special procedures.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
· Provides appropriate age specific and culturally oriented patient care to population served.
· Performs all types of diagnostic radiographic procedures as ordered by physicians.
· Manipulates radiologic technical factors according to body part thickness.
· Measures the body part to be radiographed to determine proper MA, time, kilovoltage, and tube-film distance to be utilized.
· Positions patient accurately with the x-ray tube over the patient, directed to the film holder, at an angle that produces a view with accuracy and a minimum of distortions.
· Uses immobilization and supportive devices such as sandbags, and/or angle sponges to obtain precise patient position, provide patient comfort and prevent patient movement.
· Eliminates over exposure to patient by reducing number of repeat films, accurate collimation, proper filtration and lead apron protection when needed.
· Processes all-x ray images and maintains quality control factors.
· Understands all aspects of contrast media and able to recognize contraindications; prepares contrast media and administers patients intravenously or through other body cavities.
· Provides orientation and education to other Radiology employees and students as needed.
· Processes paperwork as required (modality specific)
· Maintains records and supplies
· Participates in on-going quality improvement functions as directed and may participate by identifying, collecting, assessing and/or summarizing data.
· Provides preventive maintenance to equipment and monitors its operation.
· Assesses patient condition prior to administering a contrast media or performing the radiographic procedure.
· Documents medications administered to patient while in Radiology Department in MAR
· Ensures that any required consent forms are signed prior to examination.
· Operates portable radiographic equipment for the performance of procedures throughout the hospital including the intensive care unit, recovery room and emergency room.
· Ensures compliance with all Radiation Safety (ALARA) procedures applicable to Radiology procedures being performed.
Role Minimum Qualifications
Required Education
· Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program
