Individual needed for either an EMT or AEMT position to administer basic life support care to sick and injured persons in the pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by the physician medical director or by medical protocol. Duties include administering initial treatment at emergency scene; applying splints, bandages, oxygen and other basic EMT skills; assessing nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance; assisting in extricating trapped victims and transporting sick and injured persons to treatment center; observing, recording and reporting to the receiving healthcare provider the patient’s condition, reaction to treatments and other pertinent information; driving the ambulance and emergency response vehicles to emergency scenes.

GSCEMS is the sole EMS provider in Scott County, KY, which consists of 285 square miles and a population of nearly 54,000. Operating out of 3 stations, GSCEMS staff 5 ALS ambulances 24/7/365 and responds to over 7,500 requests for service annually. Equipment includes Type I and Type III ambulances; Stryker power load and power pro stretchers, Stryker stair chairs, Lucas CPR devices, Life Pak 15 cardiac monitors, Panasonic Toughbooks and ESO software.

EMT position requires graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalence. Individual selected must possess and maintain the following: Driver’s License, Kentucky EMT or AEMT certificate, and CPR certification. Must obtain ITLS, PHTLS or TCCC; EPC or PEPP; and ASLS certification within 1 year of employment. Candidate must complete ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 courses within 30 days of employment. National Registry EMT and those with some related experience are preferred. 

The normal shift start time is 7:30 a.m.  Candidates will be expected to work at least 48 hours per month which could be fulfilled by working two (2) 24-hour shifts or four (4) 12-hour shifts or a combination of either.
