Centre College invites qualified applicants for the full-time position of Deputy Director of Athletics. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position leads all aspects in building a nationally competitive Division III athletics program,

This position requires compliance with all NCAA, SAA, and Centre College rules and regulations and to be mindful of the College’s core values of diversity and inclusion.

With groundbreaking in July 2021, Centre Athletics is constructing the $65 million Initiative for Wellness and Athletics Excellence (IWAE) project.  The transformational facility will feature a new indoor fieldhouse, with a 200-meter track plus indoor turf, a 50-meter natatorium, a new baseball facility, plus a new stadium for football, lacrosse, and track and field.  Included in this strategic initiative is over 6,000 square feet of additional strength and conditioning space.  

The Deputy Director of Athletics serves as a senior member of the Centre College Athletics Administration, reporting to the Director of Athletics.  This position oversees and directs the department’s efforts in admissions, fundraising, alumni relations, corporate relations, external relations, facilities and events, communications, and summer camps/clinics. The Deputy AD is a highly visible position that carries significant influence, and thus requires strong character and work ethic.

  • Serve as the key point of contact with the Admissions Office, providing leadership, guidance, and counsel to our full-time staff of coaches to ensure our teams are maximizing their recruiting efforts and streamlining the flow of information between Admissions and Athletics; provide troubleshooting, data tracking, and mentoring to coaches to increase effectiveness;
  • Provide oversight and vision for the department in the areas of marketing, communications, and community relations directly supervising employees in those functions;
  • Provide oversight and vision in the area of Facilities and Operations, supervising Associate AD in this area;
  • Involved with budgeting process, capital requests process, and facilities planning;
  • Provide oversight and vision in the area of Development and Alumni Engagement, supervising Assistant AD in this area; this includes execution of game day hospitality as well as donor stewardship programming;
  • In charge of the development and implementation of a comprehensive external relations strategy, providing oversight of the communications, marketing, video services, and community relations efforts;
  • Will have an integral relationship with the College’s Development team, and work with an appropriately sized portfolio of donors and major gift prospects;
  • Oversight of Director of Student-Athlete Success;
  • Critical liaison with strategic connections and projects across campus, including but not limited to, Student Life, Health Promotions, and Wellness;
  • Involvement and oversight of department’s NIL activities, working in concert with the Senior Associate AD to remain in NCAA (and state and federal) compliance;
  • Serve as key member of department’s senior administrative team;
  • Represent department at various campus, community, conference, and national functions;
  • Travel with teams when appropriate as administrative representative;
  • Involved with internal administrative prioritization and oversight, functioning at times as a de facto Chief of Staff for the AD;
  • Oversight of summer camps and in-season clinics program, including data collection as well as adherence to policies and procedures;
  • Involvement with various campus committees;
  • NCAA Grant oversight;
  • Key leader on new initiatives;
  • Administrative oversight of assigned sports as appropriate;
  • Conduct activities in accordance with all Centre College, Southern Athletic Association, and NCAA rules and regulations;
  • Represent Centre College to students, parents, community, alumni, and the general public;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics;
  • Acts on behalf of the AD in his/her absence;
  • Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned;

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree preferred.  A minimum of five years of experience as a collegiate administrator and coach required.  Previous collegiate administrative experience required.  Previous experience as a collegiate coach, and at the Division III level, is desired.  Previous fundraising experience is a plus.  Experience with Division III either as a student-athlete, coach, or administrator is strongly preferred.The Deputy AD is a highly visible position that carries significant influence and thus requires strong character and work ethic. 

Knowledge and Skills

Expert communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.  Teamwork oriented attitude and a desire to work in a fast-paced, highly-successful Division III athletic department a must.  Knowledge of NCAA and SAA rules and regulations.  Previous experience with communications, marketing, event management, or coaching is a plus.  Additional qualifications include being self-motivated, visionary, positive, energetic, eager to teach, willingness to travel, and the ability to foster a team environment is needed. 

Physical Requirements: 

 Moderate physical activity.  Requires handling up to 25 pounds.                Standing and or walking for more than four hours per day. Driver’s     License required.
