The incumbent in this position provides structure and supervision to a population of twenty four youth in residence who are placed in emergency shelter care by self, parents or guardians, juvenile or family court or child welfare agencies.  The youth worker is an integral member of a team of adults whose mission is to provide a safe, healthy and beneficial environment for youth during the time spend at Shelter House, under the direction of the Program Director.  Incumbent is responsible for food services, facility upkeep, data entry, light housekeeping, purchasing and inventory control.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  1. Assures safety and security of youth in cooperation with counselors and other youth workers.
  2. Supervises residents at all times.
  3. Conducts daily community and house meetings.
  4. Conference with counselors and documents any significant behavioral issues with and/or emotional needs of specific residents.
  1. Completes required records and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  2. Prioritizes and attends to the specific individual needs of residents.
  3. Oversees and/or perform daily meal preparations, laundry house jobs and clean-up.
  4. Responds to Project Safe Place calls.
  5. Accepts and completes any projects and assignment as required or agreed upon with the Associate Executive Director.
  1. Provides educational and life skill sessions.
  2. Ensures an environment that is conducive to the resolution of youth issues.
  3. Welcomes new residents and facilitates their assimilation into the shelter.
  4. Offers back-up and support to counselors in terms of responding to phone calls and conducting intakes when needed.
  1. Attends meetings, training’s as requested by supervisor.
  2. Purchase and monitor inventory of staple and non-staple items.
  3. Transport youth to/from schedule activities and school.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma w/ min of 2 years of experience working with at risk youth; Bachelors Degree Preferred

Minimum of 21 years of age.

Valid Driver’s License 

Two years experience working with at-risk youth

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

STATUS: Part Time (16 – 25 hours/week)

STARTING SALARY: $15 per hour

Bachelor's Degree preferred
High School Diploma w/ min of 2 years of experience working with at risk youth; Bachelors Degree Preferred

Valid drivers license
