Job Summary/Purpose 

The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiology Technologist is responsible for providing high-quality imaging and technical support during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures. This role ensures compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, and state/federal standards for patient safety and quality of care. The technologist works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes while maintaining accurate records, adhering to radiation safety standards, and ensuring the integrity of equipment and supplies within the Cath Lab. 

 

Essential Key Job Responsibilities 

  • Prepare and operate radiologic equipment to obtain high-quality imaging during cardiac and vascular procedures. 
  • Assist physicians with catheterizations, angioplasty, stent placement, device implantation, and other interventional procedures. 
  • Monitor and record patient hemodynamic and imaging data during procedures. 
  • Maintain compliance with radiation safety principles, TJC standards, and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) guidelines. 
  • Verify patient identity and procedure details, ensuring informed consent and accurate documentation in the EMR. 
  • Prepare, calibrate, and troubleshoot Cath Lab imaging equipment to ensure readiness and safety. 
  • Administer contrast media and monitor patient response, adhering to protocols. 
  • Assist with emergency situations, including recognition and support in code response. 
  • Ensure Cath Lab supplies, medications, and equipment are properly maintained, inventoried, and available. 
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure timely, safe, and efficient workflow. 
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, including data collection, case review, and accreditation activities. 
  • Maintain knowledge of current TJC, CMS, and state regulatory requirements for the Cath Lab. 
  • Adherent to hospital infection prevention and patient safety protocols. 
  • Provide patient and family education related to procedures and post-procedure expectations. 
  • Must meet a 30-minute onsite callback time 

Role Minimum Qualifications 

Required Education  

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program 

Required Licensure and Certifications                -At Hire 

  • Registered (or Registry Eligible) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and maintains a current state license. 
  • BLS 

Required Licensure and Certifications                -Post Hire 

  • ACLS 
  • NIHSS 
  • Arrhythmia 

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Minimum two (2) years of radiology experience in an acute care setting 
  • In-depth knowledge of radiologic equipment operation and radiation safety standards. 
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics. 
  • Ability to anticipate physician needs and respond quickly in urgent/emergent situations. 
  • Proficiency with EMR and hemodynamic monitoring systems. 
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times. 

Preferred Education, Licensure and Certifications 

  • Previous Cath Lab or interventional radiology experience
