Provide strategic and hands-on leadership for the consumer lending department by overseeing daily lending operations and managing both the sales and processing teams. Ensure efficient, accurate, and compliant loan delivery while fostering a unified culture of teamwork, accountability, and high-quality service. This role develops a high-performing sales team, upholds strong compliance and documentation standards, and supports staff through ongoing training and performance management. The manager also maintains productive relationships with external partners, including vendors, service providers, and dealerships, to support smooth and timely loan funding.    

     

Major Duties and Responsibilities:  

Oversee Daily Lending Operations & Workflow Management    

  • Direct, coordinate, and monitor the daily activities of the sales and processing teams to ensure smooth workflow, accurate and timely funding, and a unified culture of teamwork and shared accountability.
  • Manage application queues and lending pipelines to maintain service level expectations and ensure handoffs between sales intake and processing are seamless.
  • Troubleshoot process bottlenecks and improve communication between sales and operations functions.

Lead and Develop the Sales Team (Lending Specialists)    

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and accountability for Lending Specialists whose responsibilities include inbound/outbound sales, cross-selling, member interviews, and application preparation.
  • Ensure Specialists provide accurate application data entry, consistent member education, and proper handoff of files to processing.
  • Support a high-energy, service-oriented sales culture that aligns with credit union values.

Compliance and Quality Control    

  • Ensure all sales and processing activities adhere to credit union policies, underwriting stipulations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine loan application reviews to verify documentation accuracy, completeness, proper disclosures, and compliance with consumer lending standards.
  • Monitor error trends, documentation issues, and regulatory changes; implement corrective measures and procedural updates as needed.

Staff Training, Development & Performance Management    

  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate staff to ensure both sales and operations teams meet performance, accuracy, service, and compliance expectations.
  • Provide formal and informal training on loan products, system navigation, cross-departmental workflows, documentation standards, and member communication.

Vendor Collaboration & Dealer Relationship Management    

  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with external partners including system vendors, third-party service providers, and dealerships essential to consumer loan volume.
  • Act as the primary liaison with auto dealers to ensure smooth funding processes, clear communication, and timely issue resolution. Monitor dealer performance and escalate any recurring documentation or process issues to ensure high-quality partnerships.

Expectations:    

  1. Ensure Credit Union policies and procedures are being followed in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.   
  2. Maintain a cohesive, highly trained and motivated staff sufficient to meet the needs of the Credit Union’s organizational objectives.
  3. Maintain deep working knowledge of lending systems, documentation requirements, and operational processes to support frontline teams.  
  4. Stay abreast of rules and regulations governing all types of loan products and ensure timely adoption of necessary policy changes to be in compliance.
  5. Periodically review loan files for accuracy and adherence with policies and procedures.
  6. Support credit union educational events by providing lending expertise when needed.
  7. Offer occasional recommendations on products, services, and pricing based on industry trends and emerging opportunities relevant to the credit union’s lending operations. 
  8. Perform other such duties as may be assigned which are commensurate
