Job Summary/Purpose
The Emergency Department Paramedic functions as a key member of the ED team by providing high-quality, patient-centered care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or provider. This role supports emergency room operations by performing clinical and technical tasks, assisting in resuscitation efforts, managing equipment, and ensuring rapid response to critical patient needs. Paramedic plays a vital role in enhancing patient flow and safety during all phases of emergency care.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
· Perform patient assessments, vital signs, EKGs, IV insertions, and phlebotomy.
· Assist with triage, stabilization, and treatment of patients in emergent and non-emergent situations.
· Support physicians and nurses during procedures, including CPR, intubation, trauma, and code response.
· Administer medications as directed, within the scope of certification and hospital policy.
· Transport patients within the facility and assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
· Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are stocked, clean, and ready for use.
· Document interventions accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
· Participate in decontamination, disaster drills, and emergency preparedness plans.
· Collaborate with ED staff to promote a safe, efficient, and team-based care environment.
· Maintain strict adherence to infection control and safety protocols.
· Provide compassionate, professional communication with patients and families.
Role Minimum Qualifications
Required Education
· High school diploma
Required Licensure and Certifications – At Hire
· Current and unrestricted Paramedic license in the state of Kentucky
· BLS, ACLS, PALS
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
· Minimum of 1 year of field or clinical experience preferred; hospital-based experience strongly preferred.
