Performs laboratory tests and associated support work as directed by the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Supervisor. Cooperates and communicates professionally with the medical and nursing staff, and hospital personnel. Uses technical knowledge to effectively make sound clinical decisions concerning lab issues and to troubleshoot instruments. In addition to the previous mentioned responsibilities, the education and POCT specialist will have the accountability of ensuring everyone in the laboratory and anyone associated with the laboratory (clinics, nurses, CMAs, etc.) who need initial and annual safety education, POC training, new employee orientation, and any other educational needs deemed by the hospital or manager. The specialist will maintain and monitor all POC instrumentation. This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee. The employee will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties requested by the employee’s supervisor.
o Must provide a copy of diploma or transcripts
o Must have at least 3 years bench experience
o Certified as a MLT from a national certifying agency (ASCP, AMT, etc.)
o Must have knowledge of accreditation standards (CAP, CLIA, TJC)
o Teaching/training abilities with competency assessment/design
o Prior experience with POC instruments and programs (glucometers, i-STAT, etc.)
o Regulatory compliance (CLIA waived/moderate testing)
